The new K 1300 R dominates every environment in which it appears. Its futuristic appearance and powerful presence draw the gaze of everyone, whatever their age or gender. A challenge for the AC Schnitzer engineers: to make the extreme more extreme, and harness all the senses of the rider and observer - because the AC Schnitzer K 1300 R stands out from the crowd.
A real racing look and flowing transitions are achieved on the AC Schnitzer K 1300 R by the cockpit and lamp trim, the front spoiler and the pillion cover. In their design, priority was given to perfect fit and simple installation while retaining the powerful styling lines. The engine spoiler is totally new and guarantees adequate ground clearance for every setting of the ESA suspension.
Delicate spokes and optimum weight are combined in the ultralight ACS I forged wheels in sizes 3.5, 5.5 & 6.0 x 17“. A set weighs less than 8 kg. Fitted in conjunction with the Superbike handlebar conversion, the result is better machine control and optimum cornering behaviour. The aim in development of the superbike handlebar conversion was to ensure the complete control essential for top performance. This conversion is also available for the BMW K 1300 S.
The necessary deep note is provided by the high performance racing exhaust made fully from titanium or stainless steel, which supplies that powerful extra boost in racing. For road use, there is the new AC Schnitzer STEALTH silencer with EC approval and removable DB Killer, available with catalyst, to give the AC Schnitzer K 1300 R the final visual and acoustic touches on the road.
A new design of universal crashpad is also available, together with various designs of crashpads in aluminium or nylon/aluminium mix. Tested clutch and brake levers of highstrength aeronautical aluminium not only look sophisticated, but are also adjustable over a wide range. These are also available for the complete F 800 series and for many other BMW models. Good rearward visibility is ensured by the AC Schnitzer mirror extensions available for the entire BMW range

ROLLE, Switzerland ( June 4, 2009 ) - Infiniti, the luxury car company from Japan , has released final European specifications for the G37 Convertible, arguably the brand's most seductive design yet. Offered in a choice of two comprehensively equipped models, both featuring a metal three-piece folding roof, the G37 Convertible has been designed without compromise to look as beautiful with the top up as it does down.
It was also created with driving pleasure in mind. Power comes from a tuneful 3.7-litre, V6 petrol engine which supplies 320PS to the rear wheels. Unsurprisingly the G37 Convertible is one of the faster four-seater Convertibles on the market. Acceleration to 62mph takes a mere 6.2 seconds (on manual version) and its top speed, where conditions allow, is limited to 155mph.
Even the entry G37 Convertible, named GT, comes lavishly equipped. Infiniti takes an intelligent view when it comes to specifying its products, fitting as standard the sort of equipment its customers expect. So included in the price of the GT are 19” alloy wheels with sports brakes, a wind deflector, leather seats, active cornering Bi-Xenon headlamps and LED rears, dual-zone adaptive climate control with automatic air recirculation, the Infiniti Intelligent Key, as well as heated and electrically adjustable front seats. There's also one feature the buyer may not expect: Infiniti's self-healing Scratch Shield Paint.
The G37 Convertible is the first Infiniti product in the world to feature a new information and entertainment system known as Connectiviti. In the GT version it includes a powerful seven-speaker audio system incorporating a CD player with MP3 disc compatibility as well as a 2GB Music Box and iPod/USB compatibility, Bluetooth® phone connection with voice controls, parking sensors and a rear view camera. One of the few options available is Infiniti's seven-speed automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifters.
For a modest premium, Infiniti offers the GT Premium version. The most notable addition to the GT's specification is Connectiviti+. The “+” means a standard 30Gb HDD navigation system with a 3D Points of Interest information bank supplied by Michelin Green Guide – a world first. Available routes include a scenic option and information is given about spots worth stopping along the way. The driver can be also made aware of fixed speed camera locations and, handy given the performance available, the speed the car should be travelling at the time…
The music box can now store up to 10GB of music – that's around 300 CDs – and this, along with the navigation system, can be operated by one of four ways including a high resolution touch screen. The electric, leather front seats now have a memory function linking the driver's seat position to the car's Intelligent Key and, unusually, they can be cooled as well as heated. Finally the front seat headrests incorporate a pair of unique Bose Personal® speakers as part of the 13-speaker Bose® Premium Sound System. It also has the facility to filter out background noise and adjusts the equalisation settings depending on whether the top is up or down.
There may be just two choices of grade due to Infiniti's inclusive specification but there are rather more when it comes to colour and trim combinations … 48, in fact, many of which are unique to the Convertible. One choice reserved for the GT Premium with automatic transmission is Monaco Red leather with red stained maple wood. This dramatic combination can be revealed in just 25 seconds, the time it takes for the Convertible to be transformed from top up to top down. The operation can be performed from inside the car. Or for the less bashful, from outside by pressing a button on the door handle.

2010 Smart Fortwo Cdi
The 2010 smart fortwo cdi has received a 21 percent increase in power delivered with 18 percent more torque. The company also say that despite the extra juice of the small 2010 smart fortwo cdi, the fuel consumption has not been affected. The 2010 smart fortwo cdi is powered by the same engine that now outputs 40 kW/54 hp and 130 Nm of torque which means it can now reach 100 km/h from 0 in 16.8 seconds. The fuel consumption of the 2010 smart fortwo cdi remain the same 3.4 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.
The petrol versions of the 2010 smart fortwo remains unchanged and together with the diesel and Brabus models are now complying with the EURO 5 emissions standards.
The 2010 smart fortwo cdi price starts at 11,790 Euros.
For model year 2010 the smart fortwo cdi has been given a clear power boost, yet it remains just as economical and environmentally friendly as before. In future the state-of-the-art three-cylinder diesel engine will produce 21 percent more power and deliver approximately 18 percent more maximum torque. Although this extra power makes the popular two-seater car noticeably livelier, it does not affect its exemplary fuel consumption. As before, it consumes just 3.4 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres (NEDC). Furthermore, with CO2 emissions of 88 g/km it continues to assert its leading position as the CO2 champion. In addition, from model year 2010 all versions of the smart fortwo including the BRABUS variants will comply with the strict emission limits of the EU5 standard.
The smart fortwo enjoys the worldwide reputation of a car that is perfect for the times we live in. Thanks to its unique concept it takes up minimum road and parking space, boasts low fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and combines mobility, ecology and joie de vivre in a unique way. For the new model year smart is uncompromisingly continuing its philosophy and making the smart fortwo even more environmentally friendly and attractive.
The most important change: the smart fortwo cdi with a length of 2.69 metres is redefining economy and driving fun. Its reengineered diesel engine now has an output of 40 kW/54 hp – seven kW or 21 percent more than its predecessor. Moreover, the new three-cylinder engine delivers maximum torque of 130 Newton metres (an increase of 18 percent). This makes the car that is brimming with lifestyle appeal even more agile and fun to drive. Thanks to the power boost it now sprints from 0 - 100 km/h in just 16.8 seconds. However, the increased liveliness does not affect the outstanding fuel consumption and emission figures of the trendy two-seater car. The combined fuel consumption still stands at 3.4 litres per 100 kilometres and the extremely low CO2 emissions of just 88 g/km mean that the smart fortwo cdi is still the CO2 world champion among all production cars with combustion engines.
The 21 percent power increase is primarily realised through modified pistons in conjunction with adjusted injection and charge pressure parameters. Furthermore, thanks to the increased torque it was also possible to lengthen the gear ratios of the third and fourth gears by ten and eleven percent respectively, and to lower the shifting points in the automatic programme. This reduces the rpm level in speed ranges used particularly frequently – with benefits in terms of fuel consumption and noise level. The smart fortwo cdi is equipped with a closed diesel particulate filter and emissions are below the limit values laid down in the EU5 standard.
Thanks to optimised engine and transmission management the petrol models of the popular two-seater car also comply with the demanding EU5 exhaust gas standard. Not only does this help the environment – in many countries it entails clear tax advantages.
New contrast components in shiny pearl black, which further upgrade the interior of the smart fortwo, and a new folding armrest available as an option, provide for increased comfort.
Further optional equipment includes the smart hands-free system with a colour display and extensive multimedia functions. It features the sassy design typical of the brand, a Bluetooth® interface, voice control and optional iPod® connection and is perfectly integrated in the vehicle electronics and the audio system. It is simple and safe to operate via a wireless controller on the centre console.
All updated smart fortwo variants can be ordered now. The prices for the petrol models are unchanged. In future the 40 kW/54 hp smart fortwo cdi will cost €11 790 as a coupé in the pure equipment line (German price incl. VAT).
2010 Vauxhall Insignia VXR
Vauxhall's Insignia range will get a powerful flagship model when the VXR version goes on sale this autumn.
With a 2.8-litre V6 engine generating a thumping 321bhp, along with four-wheel drive and a muscular makeover, the VXR is a match for premium rivals such as the Audi S4. There's plenty of power, too, thanks to a 321bhp 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine. The VXR delivers 64bhp more than the standard Insignia V6: Vauxhall claims a 0-60mph time of 5.8 seconds with a top speed limited to 155mph
INSIGNIA TAKES POWER FIGHT TO PREMIUM RIVALS
* Nurburgring-proven chassis with Adaptive 4X4
* Turbocharged V6 engine with race-bred design features
Unique-to-range front suspension for optimised grip and traction Packing 325 horsepower, a sophisticated four-wheel-drive chassis and a sub-six second 0-60 time, Vauxhall Insignia VXR is set to take the mid-size performance saloon market by storm when it goes on sale early this summer, with a level of dynamic prowess which aims to raise the bar in its class.
Based on the successful 2009 European Car of the Year, and available in hatch, saloon and Sports Tourer body styles, the high-performance Insignia will be Vauxhall's first VXR model to adopt 4X4 technology, using a bespoke chassis developed through an extensive test programme at the gruelling Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
Highlights are a 'HiPerStrut' (High Performance Strut) front suspension system, Adaptive 4X4 with electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) and a 10 millimetre reduction in ride height over the Insignia SRi.
The HiPerStrut system is unique to the VXR and serves two primary functions: firstly, to reduce torque-steer, but also to maintain negative camber during cornering, thereby improving ultimate grip levels in wet or dry conditions.
Complementing these features are standard 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch lightweight forged alloys are a cost option) with bespoke tyres, revised bushing and damper settings on both axles, and Brembo brakes with colour-keyed callipers and vented/cross-drilled discs.
'The Vauxhall Insignia VXR is not just about absolute power, but a combination of usable performance and chassis sophistication which is the match of premium rivals, such as the new Audi S4,' said Andy Gilson, Vauxhall's Marketing Director. ' In essence, it's an ultra-fast performance saloon that will appeal to buyers who appreciate subtle yet distinctive styling, but who need to know that there's real substance below the car's metal.'
And substance the VXR has a-plenty. At the heart of the Vauxhall Insignia VXR is a advanced 2.8-litre V6 Turbo ECOTEC engine, with its micro-alloy forged steel crank, classic 60-degree cylinder angle and die-cast alloy oil sump - all features found in many a race engine. Producing 325PS (65PS up on the Elite V6), the engine uses a single, twin-scroll turbocharger and variable valve control for quick throttle response, and accelerates from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, achieving an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
With a design inspired by the Vauxhall/Opel GTC, many of the Insignia VXR's styling cues will be familiar to those who saw this groundbreaking concept at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. A deeper bumper, incorporating bold, twin mesh grilles either side of the main grille, dominates the front of the car, and at the rear, hatch and saloon models gain a rear spoiler, while all VXRs have a bespoke bumper moulding incorporating dual matt chrome exhausts.
This sporting theme continues in the Vauxhall Insignia VXR's cabin. Recaro front seats, a new VXR steering wheel, VXR gearknob and unique mouldings are standard on all cars, along with different instrument graphics, VXR sill plates and a black headlining.
All VXRs are available with a colour palette comprising Arden Blue, Power Red, Carbon Flash Black, Silver Lake , Olympic White and Technical Grey.
Sitting at the top of the Insignia range, the new model will be an important addition to Vauxhall's performance-bred VXR family, which already includes the Corsa VXR, Astra VXR and 431 horsepower VXR8.
Since its launch in 2004, the VXR brand has been underpinned by the immensely successful VX Racing team, which currently holds all three British Touring Car Championship titles - Drivers', Manufacturers' and Team - for the 2008 season.
2010 Vauxhall Astra
These are the first official images of the new, British-built Vauxhall Astra, which will debut as a five-door hatchback at this September’s Frankfurt Show and will appear in UK showrooms at the end of the year.
With its strong, cab-forward silhouette, steeply-raked windscreen and sloping rear roofline, the new Astra makes ingenious use of many of the design features found in the Insignia, but in a fresh and innovative way. Also like the Insignia, it has spent over 600 hours in the wind tunnel, benefiting performance, economy and overall refinement.
The highlight of the new Astra’s powertrain line-up is the introduction of an all-new, 140PS turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit, which builds on Vauxhall’s commitment to engine downsizing and reduced emissions/fuel consumption, while retaining the performance of a larger capacity vehicle.
VAUXHALL'S ALL-NEW ASTRA BREAKS COVER IN FIRST OFFICIAL PICS
* Set to replicate current Astra's success as best-selling British-built car
* Bold, distinctive exterior design matched with spacious, premium-feel cabin
* All new chassis with adaptive damping will raise bar in class for comfort & handling
Luton – These are the first official images of the new, British-built Vauxhall Astra, which will debut as a five-door hatchback at this September's Frankfurt Show and will appear in UK showrooms at the end of the year.
Marking the sixth generation of Astra in 30 years, the new car's design team was led by Mark Adams, the British designer responsible for last year's European Car of the Year-winning Vauxhall Insignia.
“We're continuing with the same premium design cues as the Insignia, inside and out of the car,” said Adams, Vice President of GM Europe Design. “However, the main design themes, like the wing-shaped light signatures and the blade, needed an individual execution to avoid ‘cloning' the model ranges. This is why, for instance, you see twin wings in the rear lights and a reversed blade on its flanks.”
Underpinning the Astra's rakish, 4.4 metre-length body, is an all-new chassis with a 71 millimetre-longer wheelbase, benefiting both passenger comfort and packaging. Wider tracks front and rear feature, as does a new rear axle design, which not only improves stability and agility, but takes the Astra's ride comfort into a different league.
Enhancing the Astra's dynamic performance still further is the option of Vauxhall's clever FlexRide system, a rarity in this sector which offers drivers three unique damper settings – standard, sport and tour – while being fully adaptive to changes in driving style and cornering speed.
Pictures of the new Astra's interior will be released soon, but in the meantime expect similar strides in quality to those found in the Insignia, combined with big improvements in packaging, seat design and in-cabin storage. Mark Adams' unique wrap-round dash treatment will also appear in the Astra, but with a different take on that found in the Insignia.
Unique in this sector will be the Astra's optional, latest generation AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting), which features bi-xenon lighting that changes its intensity and reach to suit prevailing road conditions. A similar system was introduced on the Insignia, and is now recognised as one of the most advanced systems available.
The highlight of the new Astra's powertrain line-up is the introduction of an all-new, 140PS turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit, which builds on Vauxhall's commitment to engine downsizing and reduced emissions/fuel consumption, while retaining the performance of a larger capacity vehicle. The 1.4T joins three further petrol engines, which range from 100PS to 180PS, and four diesel engines ranging from 95PS to 160PS. All engines are Euro 5 compliant.
“The only part of the Astra which isn't new is its name,” said Andy Gilson, Vauxhall's Marketing Director. “And that name currently accounts for around 30 per cent of all Vauxhall's car sales, with the five-door hatch taking 60 per cent of those sales alone – so it's important to lead with this body style. Not only is the Astra a crucial new model for Vauxhall, but we're confident that its blend of dynamic design, new-to-class technology and immense driver appeal will attract an even broader spectrum of buyers in this sector.”

Venturi AstroLab - A Solar Car
With a top speed of 120 km/hr and range of 110 km, Venturi Astrolab is a real “Solar Commuter” making extensive trips on a daily basis.
Astrolab : (latin astro = star, labe = to take)
Takes energy from the sun, in order to move…
ELECTRO-SOLAR HYBRID
With 3.6 sqm of photovoltaic cells giving an exceptional yield of 21%, Astrolab innovates by presenting Astrolab, a unique concept of a “zero emission” vehicle.
Launched at the Paris Motor Show 2006, Astrolab thus did not passed unnoticed in the Los Angeles traffic (see photos and video enclosed) while it was presented in the United States in November 2007.
Capable of working with very little energy (16 kWc engine) and of recharging even when in motion, this vehicle of another era does not need to be permanently exposed to the sun in order to move. Its last-generation NiMH Venturi NIV-7 batteries – liquid cooled – in fact enable it to restitute stored energy, whether solar or from the electricity supply, making it the first electro-solar hybrid vehicle.
With a top speed of 120 km/hr and autonomy of 110 km, Astrolab is a real “Solar Commuter” making extensive trips on a daily basis.
Astrolab is a vehicle with a considerable technological head-start on all other productions worldwide. It meets the needs of people's inter-urban travel, at the forefront of the best that is being achieved in terms of technology.
CONSUMPTION = 0, EMISSIONS = 0
This is very first vehicle that consumes no fossile resources in order to work : the emissions of CO2 required for its construction will even be compensated for by environmental actions.
A parallel can be drawn between Astrolab and a sailboat : both advance silently while making best use of the elements provided by Nature. And the piloting of both makes for sensations unlike any other.
To attain this level of performance while using very little energy, Astrolab has been designed like a Formula 1: its carbon monocoque chassis is ultra-light and serves as an oversized protection cell ensuring the safety of its occupants in the event of a collision. Its profile recalls the aqua-dynamic design of great racing yachts.
A NEW ERA IN TERMS OF DESIGN
Astrolab also opens up a new era as regards automobile architecture: light and high-profiled, it offers the rays of the sun 3.6 sqm of today’s most sophisticated photovoltaic cells (for an overall vehicle length under 4 m).
Its designer Sacha Lakic describes Astrolab as: “a flying wing set on four wheels”.
Optimized to incorporate its solar cells, the Astrolab’s design takes into account the effect of passengers’ weight on the vehicle’s dynamic behavior. Very light when empty, the tandem architecture makes for perfect balance, whether the vehicle is occupied by one person or two.
With Astrolab, Venturi has given priority to the solar solution as its energy conversion technology: all of its developments allow us to hope for even higher yields in the years to come. Within a 30-year perspective, Venturi is the only automobile manufacturer capable of presenting such a solution while ensuring new driving sensations and an essential aspect of automobiles: the dream.

2010 Volkswagen Golf Variant
The front end of the 2010 Volkswagen Golf Variant was completely redesigned. From now its appearance is defined by clear horizontal lines and bold headlight styling. The car’s engine lineup was adopted directly from the Volkswagen Golf 2-door and 4-door models. In the interior, the high-end instruments of the current Volkswagen Golf set the tone. In Europe, first units of the new VW Golf will be delivered in September 2009.
The new 2010 Volkswagen Golf Variant will be offered in the three equipment versions Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Golf Variant engines available for selection when advance sales begin are a TSI (boosted gasoline direct-injection engine) with 90 kW / 122 PS and two very quiet common rail turbo-diesels (77 kW / 105 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS). Other engines will follow in stages: two Multipoint engines (59 kW / 80 PS and 75 kW / 102 PS) and another TSI gasoline engine (118 kW / 160 PS).
Volkswagen begins accepting advance orders for the new Volkswagen Golf Variant. In the sixth generation of the world bestseller, after the 2-door and 4-door VW Golf and the latest Volkswagen Golf Plus, this is the fourth body version to be launched. The estate is one of the most successful models on the market, particularly in the company car market. The extensive redesign of this Estate should ensure that the all-around talent further extends its position as a business estate car and as a first car for families as well. The base price of the new Volkswagen Golf Variant in Germany, including ESP, six airbags, daytime running lights, roof railing, power windows all around, upshift indicator, power and heated outside mirrors, 1/3 to 2/3 split folding rear bench seat and seatback, central locking with RF remote control, climate control and 1,495 litres of cargo capacity is € 18,500.
The front end of the Volkswagen Golf Variant was completely redesigned. Its visual appearance follows today's Volkswagen "Design DNA". From now its appearance is defined by clear horizontal lines and bold headlight styling. The car's engine lineup was adopted directly from the Volkswagen Golf 2-door and 4-door models. In the interior, the high-end instruments of the current Volkswagen Golf set the tone. In Europe , first units of the new VW Golf will be delivered in September 2009.
Features and engines
At its market launch - in parallel to advance sales that are now starting - the successful Estate (more than 95,000 new vehicle registrations in 2008) will be offered in the three equipment versions Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The latter replaces the previous Sportline version as the top equipment line. Engines available for selection when advance sales begin are a TSI (boosted gasoline direct-injection engine) with 90 kW / 122 PS and two very quiet common rail turbo-diesels (77 kW / 105 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS). Other engines will follow in stages: two Multipoint engines (59 kW / 80 PS and 75 kW / 102 PS) and another TSI gasoline engine (118 kW / 160 PS). All six engines fulfil the new Euro-5 emissions standard.
Exterior details of the new Volkswagen Golf Variant
In front, the new VW Golf Variant can be recognized by its new bumper, radiator grille and engine hood styling and its modified fenders and headlights, which were all adapted 1:1 from the estate's 2-door and 4-door counterparts. In contrast to the Previous model, the front-end design is no longer defined by a chrome radiator grille, rather by a black, horizontally layout of the grille and front bumper painted in car colour. In the lower area, the Estate has an additional large air inlet too. Starting with the mid-level equipment version (Comfortline), chrome inserts are integrated in the radiator grille and the lower air inlet. In the top Highline version, this also applies to the frames for the front fog lights with new static turning light function that are a standard feature here.
At the rear, the independent design of the previous model has been upgraded in the new generation by modified, more elegant taillights and bumpers fully painted in car colour in the lower area. From now on, TDI and TSI versions can also be recognized by their tailpipes, which are no longer covered by the bumper. In addition, Volkswagen developed a new wheel lineup for the new Volkswagen Golf Variant.
Interior details of the new VW Golf Variant
At the time of its presentation last fall, the sixth generation VW Golf received excellent marks, especially for its high-end quality. In the interior, it was especially in the styling of the gauges that the Golf crossed boundaries to the next higher class and still does. The same gauges and instruments, including a standard multifunctional display and upshift indicator, are now being used in the new Volkswagen Golf Variant too. Also adopted from the Golf was the new generation of three-spoke steering wheels, which celebrated their debut in the Volkswagen Passat CC in 2008.
In this context, controls for the new Golf climate control system were integrated in the VW Golf Variant as well. Volkswagen also adapted its line of different seat covers (Trendline: "Roxy"; Comfortline: "Scout"; Highline: Alcantara/fabric "Merlin") to the entire model series. The same applies to features ranging from the radio and navigation systems up to the interfaces for MP3 players and Bluetooth mobile telephones. Two driver assistance systems are also available as options for the first time in the Volkswagen Golf Variant: "ParkAssist" (automatic parking assistant) and "Rear Assist" (rearview camera). Another feature being offered is the panorama sunroof that is popular among many Volkswagen Golf Variant buyers.
Euro-5 engines of the new Volkswagen Golf Variant in detail
Volkswagen is launching the new VW Golf Variant on the market with four gasoline and two diesel engine options; they all meet the limits of the new Euro-5 standard. The entry level continues to be marked by an 80-PS gasoline engine, followed by a 102-PS version. The two most powerful gasoline engines (TSI with 122 PS and 160 PS) and the two turbo-diesels (TDI with 105 PS and 140 PS) may be ordered with an optional automatic DSG dual clutch transmission.
Entirely new to the Volkswagen Golf Variant's engine lineup is the 105 PS common rail TDI. Like the larger 2.0-liter TDI, the 1.6-liter four cylinder is also characterized by noticeably comfortable noise levels, low emissions (119 g/km CO2) and an extremely low average fuel consumption (4.5 litres per hundred kilometres). Compared to the previous model of the same power, fuel consumption was reduced by 0.7 litre.
The 2.0 TDI was adopted from the previous generation of the VW Golf Variant; it also has a highly advanced common rail direct injection system. The 140 PS strong and 210 km/h fast Volkswagen Golf Variant 2.0 TDI consumes 5.0 litre (132 g/km CO2), which is impressively low considering its power. The TDI engines may be ordered together with any of the three equipment versions.
As already noted, the gasoline engines of the Volkswagen Golf Variant have power levels of 80 PS (MPI), 102 PS (MPI), 122 PS (TSI) and 160 PS (TSI). The base engine with 80 PS is available with the Trendline equipment line; the 102-PS version may be ordered as a VW Golf Variant Trendline or VW Golf Variant Comfortline. The TSI engines can each be ordered together with the Comfortline or Highline equipment versions.
Just how efficiently the current gasoline engines from Volkswagen perform is well-illustrated by the TSI. Its 6.3 litre (122 PS) and 6.4 litre (160 PS) fuel consumption values place their average fuel consumption on par with the already economical base engine with 80 PS. When shifted by a DSG transmission, fuel consumption is even reduced to 6.0 litres per 100 kilometres (139 g/km CO2) on the 122-PS TSI and 6.1 litres (143 g/km CO2) on the 160-PS version. With this engine lineup, the new Volkswagen Golf Variant is one of the most economical and cleanest estate cars in Europe .

Volkswagen released all the official details on the new Golf GTD that will be debuting this weekend at the Leipzig Motor Show in Germany. The new hot diesel hatch revives a designation that originally appeared in 1982 but hasn't been seen in two decades. This time around, the high output 168 hp version of VW's 2.0-liter TDI four cylinder pushes the GTD to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds. On the EU combined test cycle, the GTD gets 44.4 mpg (U.S.) with CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.
The GTD is much a new GTI except that gas powered car's red grille stripes are now finished in chrome to set it apart. Inside the car, the red contrasting stitching of the GTI is also replaced by light grey for the diesel model. Considering the handling capabilities of the GTD, the sport seats look like they can keep the driver in place for the job at hand.
VOLKSWAGEN OFFERS PERFORMANCE WITH ECONOMY IN NEW GOLF GTD
As the new GTI hits the road for the first time its sister car has been unveiled at the Leipzig Motor Show: the new diesel-powered Golf GTD.
The ability to accelerate to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph are combined with average fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg and a range in excess of 650 miles on a single tank of fuel to create a hot hatch of the moment.
Lessons learned through the creation of the sixth generation GTI are applied to the new GTD. Sharp responses and an agile chassis complement the car's substantial torque which is available from as low as 1,750 rpm.
Powering the new GTD is a refined 2.0-litre (1,968 cc) common rail TDI engine, producing 170 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque. Driving through a six-speed manual or automatic DSG gearbox, this translates to effortless performance with CO 2 emissions of just 139 g/km.
Maintaining the sharp responses expected of the GTD is suspension lowered by 15 mm when compared to the standard Golf. In addition, Volkswagen's innovative Adaptive Chassis Control system (ACC), featuring pneumatically controlled damper units, can be specified on the GTD. This allows the driver to select from normal, comfort or sport modes to define the desired suspension, steering and accelerator response settings for any particular journey.
The Golf GTD's appearance will differ significantly from that of the standard Golf's. It gains the GTI's honeycomb grille, badge-style and front-end design, though with the addition of chrome rather than red highlights. At the back, full body-coloured bumpers make the GTD appear lower and wider than it really is, while the Golf's standard wheels are replaced with unique 17-inch ‘Seattle Black' alloys. Inside, the main contact points are unique to the Golf GTD – a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a GTD gearshift and a standard tartan interior. The tartan finish is subtly different from that in the GTI, being grey, white and black, rather than red, white and black.
As with the entire Golf range, the new GTD will feature class-leading levels of safety with ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and seven airbags, including for the first time a knee airbag, all standard. The Golf was recently awarded a maximum five-star rating by the EuroNCAP crash testing agency.
UK buyers will be able to order a Golf GTD from the end of April. Prices are yet to be confirmed but will start at under £22,000. The car will go on sale on 22 June – exactly one month after the first GTIs hit UK roads.

Entering its third year since a major redesign, Volvo's flagship S80 enhances its premium luxury charter with increased standard amenities across the board. The model lineup for 2009 includes the normally aspirated S80 3.2, the turbocharged S80 T6 AWD fitted with Volvo's renown all-wheel drive with Instant Traction TM and the top flight S80 V8 AWD - the first and only Volvo sedan equipped with a powerful yet remarkably compact and highly efficient V8 engine.
Among the enhanced list of standard equipment, the S80 3.2 and T6 feature a Bluetooth hands-free phone interface, watch dial instrument cluster, Rainsensor windshield wipers, blueband tinted windshield and redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels. A new Convenience Package offers the Personal Car Communicator (PCC), Interior Air Quality System (IAQS), front and rear park assist and Dynaudio Premium Sound System with Dolby® Pro Logic® II Surround Sound with rear headphone jacks. Dual xenon active bending headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels are now stand-alone options.
Befitting its stature as Volvo's most luxurious sedan, the S80 V8 is equipped with a new standard Executive Package, Climate Package, SIRIUS Satellite Radio (w/6 month subscription), and Front and Rear Park Assist. The roster of upscale fitments encompasses ventilated front seats with massage, Classic Wood Steering Wheel, power front passenger seat adjuster accessible from rear or driver's seats, heated front and rear seats, infrared protected windshield, high-pressure headlamp washers and heated windshield washer nozzles. Those seeking to further enhance the ambience of executive transport can specify an optional rear seat refrigerator with two crystal glasses.
The S80 T6 offers a new optional Executive Package that adds many of the luxury elements found on the V8. The list includes classic wood inlays and steering wheel, soft leather seating surfaces, leather front center armrest, aluminum console storage cover, chrome lower door molding, an analog clock in the center control panel as well as ventilated front seats with massage.
Based on the S80's compact 3.2-liter 235-horsepower inline-6 cylinder engine, the T6 version has a displacement of 3.0 liters, producing 281 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Maximum torque is on tap from just 1,500 rpm and remains available all the way up the rev range, resulting in remarkably quick acceleration and smooth drivability. Volvo's first V8-powered sedan continues to put out 311 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. All S80s feature a standard six-speed "Geartronic" transmission.
In nearly every area of occupant protection the S80 expands Volvo's leadership in both preventative and protective safety. Innovations include a side airbag with dual chamber construction for enhanced hip and chest protection. Clever structural design employs four different grades of steel for predictable crash energy absorption. The S80 also features the next generation of WHIPS rear impact protection and new approaches to pedestrian safety.
Volvo introduced a Collision Avoidance Package for the S80 in midyear 2008. Volvo's latest preventative safety technologies focus on preventing driver distractions that studies show cause up to 90 percent of all traffic accidents. Based on this statistic, Volvo developed efficient technologies to help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of accidents caused by distraction and driver fatigue. The package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning with Brake Support (CWAB), Distance Alert (DA), Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
The Volvo Navigation System with DVD map data and remote control is available on all models. And so is a dual screen rear seat entertainment system. For 2009, the latter receives new larger 8-inch screens integrated into the backs of the front seat headrests. In addition to fulfilling FMVSS requirements, the screens provide increased resolution, contrast and brightness for daylight viewing, are mercury free and available with all interior upholstery and color selections. The entertainment system's remote control is more user friendly while foldable headphones fit neatly into the seatback pockets.
